St. Louis Daily Deals Leaves St. Charles Business, Consumers in Bind

The online coupon company, which is owned by a Warson Woods couple, has apparently shut down.

St. Louis Daily Deals has apparently shut down, leaving several businesses unpaid and consumers with what may be useless coupons, according the the St. Louis Better Business Bureau. The website is modeled after other "daily deals" services offered by sites such as Groupon, stltoday.com and Patch.com.

The company, is owned by Lorilee and Bill Cummings of , the BBB stated in a news release. It apparently shutdown sometime in February, and the owners of the company have not responded to phone calls by a BBB investigator.

The company's website states that its account has been suspended, and the last post on its Facebook page is from Jan. 5. One customer posted on the company's Facebook page that she purchased a "deal," but could not print out the coupon because the company's website was down.

"Anyone out there I can talk to?" she asked on the Facebook page. "I have tried to email as well." 

Lorilee Cummings told a Post-Dispatch reporter that site would be back up on Thursday so customers could print out their coupons. She also told the reporter that she would do the best she could to pay the business owners, but did not provide a timeline of when those payments would be made.

In the the BBB news release, the owners of a St. Charles house cleaning service, a Kirkwood spa and a Barnhart house cleaning service all said they had trouble collecting their money from St. Louis Daily Deals. They expressed hardship in trying to honor the coupons without being paid, and some say they can no longer accept the coupons until the company pays them.

The BBB website offers tips for consumers considering purchasing coupons and for businesses considering contracting with coupon marketers.
