St. Charles Unemployment Rates Fall

Bureau of Labor Statistics releases unemployment statistics.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the latest unemployment data for cities with populations greater than 25,000.

Unemployment in the city of St. Charles has fallen from 8.8 percent in January to a low of 6.9 percent in September.

The data, which is not seasonally adjusted, shows that 2,530 St. Charles residents, out of a labor force estimated at 36,441 people, were out of work.

The last time unemployment was this low was in October 2008, when the rate was 6.6 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Countywide unemployment has decreased as well this year, although at a slower pace. The preliminary data for September 2011, which has not been seasonally adjusted, shows 7.1 percent unemployment.
