Planning and Zoning Approves Live Music at Little Hills Winery

City staff said that they'd received no complaints about live music performances at other South Main establishments.

The St. Charles Planning and Zoning Commission has given its approval for live music performances at the Little Hills Winery, 501 S. Main Street.

The commission had received two concerns from neighboring residents, leading Planning Manager Jason Jaggi to suggest initially that performances be limited to the two terraces closest to South Main and prohibited from the terrace at the back, which is closest to the residences on 2nd Street.

Commissioner Larry Muench said that he didn't see a problem with music on the third terrace. The back terrace was the largest and often used for weddings, he said.

Little Hills Winery owner Dave Campbell was in attendance and said that he was willing to work with the city on conditions.

The commission decided to forward a recommendation to the city council to approve the conditional use permit, with the conditions that outside music end at or before 8 p.m. and that any music performed on the third terrace be directed towards Main Street.

The city council voted in October of 2012 to allow live music performances on historic South Main Street.

The Vine was the first restaurant approved for live music. Magpie's received permission for live performances in May of this year.
