Picasso's Coffee House Starts Beer University

First "class" scheduled for Feb. 23.

plans to start a “beer school” that will feature presentations on microbrews and tastings.

Picasso’s owner Chris Schulte decided to offer the beer school after customers expressed an interest. The classes will be offered once a month, he said.

“We’ve got a lot of connoisseurs here and some folks that are really into beer came to me and said, ‘Can we do a beer night?’” he said.

The first session on Feb. 23 will focus on microbrew beers from New Orleans brewer Abita Beer in honor of Mardi Gras.

 Tickets for the tasting will be $20 each. The price include three drinks, light appetizers and a commemorative beer glass, said Schulte.

April 27: Boulevard Brewing 7 p.m.
