Bridge Worker Killed Monday on Blanchette

The worker was employed by contractor Walsh Construction from Chicago.

A worker involved with repairs to the Blanchette Bridge was killed Monday morning when a barrel that was being lifted fell on him, according to media reports today.

The accident shut down construction on the bridge for the day, according to a report from KMOV-Ch. 4 on its website. The worker has not yet been identified.

KSDK-Ch. 5 reported that the Pattonville Fire Protection District said the worker was hit in the head by a 55 gallon of oil at 10:44 a.m. KMOV reported that the worker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patch news partner FOX2 reported that Walsh construction of Chicago is the contractor in charge of the project, and KSDK said the worker who was killed was a Walsh employee.

KMOV said construction crews had planned to close a lane of I-70 to begin for a three-week long repair project, but that work had been now been canceled.
