Warrior Dash Revisited During Lake
Orion Bond Primary Proposal

A popular
running event dubbed the “Warrior Dash” challenges athletes and weekend
warriors to traverse a challenging obstacle course consisting of fire walls,
trenches, barbed wire, cargo walls, and pools of mud for sloshing like a
hog.  The recent Lake Orion bond issue
proposal had an element of the Warrior Dash in that  the “No Vote” contingent decided that engaging
in gutter politics and flinging mud was more important than dealing in facts.  Case in point was the sign at the Message
Center billboard at the entrance to Lake Orion on Lapeer Road which read:

Tax Increase

“Giving poor
management more $ is like giving an alcoholic more beer”.

Now no one
has ever said that politics is a clean sport.
Case in point is former President Lyndon Johnson wanting to accuse his
opponent of sleeping with farm animals.
When his campaign manager objected and said it couldn’t be proved,
Johnson replied – “Yes, I know that.  I
just want to hear him deny it!”

So whatever
your position was on the bond issue isn’t there a line of decency that should
not be crossed?  The reference to
alcoholics in my opinion crosses that line and demonstrates a complete lack of professionalism.  It’s nothing more than playground mentality
where name calling runs rampant.  Yes,
the voters have spoken and the bond issue went down to defeat but the gutter
politics surrounding the election is not only an embarrassment and an affront
to the community but a disservice to the majority of people who participate and
operate with dignity.  Let’s hope we see
no more of this infantile behavior in future elections which hopefully was not representative
of the entire committee who voted against the bond proposal.  Let’s conclude that it was an ill-advised
ploy on the part of some renegades.   If
people who support a particular candidate or issue want to wallow in mud, then
I suggest they register for the next Warrior Dash and then let the mud flow!
