Third Annual Family Culture Day Event to Showcase Latino Art, Culture and Cuisine

will host its third annual Family Culture Day event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday

“The Family Culture Day event series celebrates Latino contributions to the arts and features informational displays, dance and live musical performances, Latino artists and art activities for children, and ethnic food and refreshments,” Foundry Art Centre spokesperson Mary Hediger told Patch in an email.

Foundry Art Centre executive director Laura Helling said in a press release that the event is part of The Foundry Art Centre’s commitment to bringing a variety of art, music and culture to the community.

The series is presented this year by PNC Arts Alive, a two-year, $1 million initiative from The PNC Foundation that supports visual and performing arts groups.

Hediger said the Foundry is one of 16 arts organizations in the St. Louis metro area to have received a portion of the initial grant.

PNC Regional President for Greater St. Louis Rick Sems said in the press release that the PNC Foundation has a long history of providing grants to organizations that are meant to strengthen and enrich the lives of area communities.

“We understand that a rich arts community is a significant driver of our economic success, providing employment, boosting tourism and making the region attractive for businesses, residents and visitors,” Sems said.

  • Live music will be presented by Sambabom and cultural dance performances will feature Venezuala Dance Group.
  • Ethnic food will be provided by Smoothieville and .
  • Art will be exhibited by local Latino artists.
  • The event would make a fun outing for the whole family, especially since it includes fun, hands-on activities for the kids.
  • The will be on hand to issue library cards and showcase Spanish and English books.
  • Physician and author Dr. Carlos Pappalardo will also offer a poetry recital.

“It is our hope that these unique events will provide a valuable cross-cultural educational opportunity for our community,” Helling added.
