Worthington Still Waiting To Find Right Fit For Main St Building

A sign still sits in the window of the building at 222 N Main Street, near the corner of North Main and Monroe Streets, in Historic Downtown.

"FOR LEASE — RETAIL" it reads, followed by "Available June 30, 2011."

It's still available for lease, after more than two years on the market, because the owner, George Worthington, is looking for a business that will both fit in and stand out.

Worthington said that lots of bars and restaurants have shown an interest for the central location on Historic Main Street.

But Worthington is holding out for a different type of business. There are already a lot of bars and restaurants in the area, he said, and it would cost a significant amount of money to renovate the property to allow for a kitchen and proper sewage system required of restaurants and bars.

But, he says, he is still looking to lease the property to a retail business.
