Two St. Charles Families Host Blood Drives to Honor Loved Ones

Olivia Wise, 11, has an immune deficiency and family members are hosting a drive in her honor Aug. 31. The annual Tim Hill Memorial Blood Drive will be Sept. 7.

Two local families are honoring loved ones with a blood drive in the next few weeks. 

Eleven-year-old Olivia Wise has an immune deficiency which has caused her to go to a more sedentary lifestyle. Her family is hosting a blood drive in her honor from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 31 at . 

According to a press release, Olivia has had immune deficiency since birth, but was recently diagnosed. She regularly gets IVIG transfusions.

“She’s had to pretty much stop, she’s homebound,” said her mother, Kelley Wise.  “Everything has just come to a screeching halt.”

The blood drive is a way for the family to "pay back" the blood Olivia has used.

“We hope this blood drive brings attention to these kinds of diseases,” she said. “Also, I never realized before (Olivia’s illness) just how much blood is needed.  If people didn’t give, Olivia could not receive treatment.”

18th Annual Blood Drive in Memory of Local Man Killed

The family of a local man who died in a car accident in 1995 will host the 18th annual Tim Hill Memorial Blood Drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at the . 

Hill died in a car accident in 1995 at age 28. He worked in healthcare industry and devoted his life to helping others, according to a press release. 

“He was a great guy and so concerned about other people,” said his sister, Karen Meers. “The blood drive is something we do in his memory, and something we enjoy doing to help the community.”
