Free Comic Book Day Draws Fans New and Old

St. Charles comic book stores Comic Relief and Fantasy Shop participated in Free Comic Book Day this weekend, inviting customers in for free special release books.

Comic book fans young and old visited St. Charles shops Saturday morning for Free Comic Book Day. The local stores participating in the nationwide event,  and , offered a special selection of comic books for free all day. The list included classics like Spiderman, Thor and Green Lantern, as well as new ones like Mouse Guard and The Dark Crystal.

Brendan Fowler, manager at Comic Relief, said the event is in its tenth year and always takes place on a Saturday in May or June. Mike Brodeur, general manager of Fantasy Shop, said the event was created to promote comic books as a hobby and help create a new generation of fans.
