Five Ways to Get Fit in St. Charles

You won't have to worry about gaining weight in colder weather with these local classes.

Everybody wants to be in shape, but as we get older it becomes harder. It's easy to become busy and distracted with life's many responsibilities and forget to exercise.

Fortunately, St. Charles offers a ton of ways to begin an exercise regime again, without too much fuss.

  • Walk, run or ride the Katy trail - St. Charles is lucky enough to have instant access to the Katy Trail State Park, with a trail system that runs 240 miles along the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad. It's easy to find the trailhead in St. Charles and you can enjoy beautiful scenery along a relatively flat trail as you exercise.
  • Start up yoga - Once you learn some basic yoga moves, expanding from there is easy. Yoga helps balance the body and mind, with many classes offered in St. Charles. Try  for Hatha yoga or head to Blue Bird Yoga on Main Street for other classes in various forms.
  • Learn Middle Eastern dance moves - On September 17 and 18, head to the for a Middle Eastern dance workshop, hosted by dance expert Ranya Renee. Turn your awkward moves into gracefullness and work up a sweat while you enjoy exercising.
  • Go to boot camp - No, not in the military, but at your local fitness center. APC Fitness in St. Charles will be hosting a Back to School Boot Camp starting in September. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. Ready to truly take your body to the next level? Then boot camp is for you.
  • Kick butt with karate - No need to feel embarassed, tons of adults learn karate later on in life and love it. Not only can different types of karate be great for self defense and self esteem, but it's a form of exercise where you're constantly learning and growing as an individual.
