Five Upcoming Garden Tours

Check out five opportunities to peek into the back yards of skilled gardeners in the St. Louis area.

  • Garden Tour of Edwardsville: See seven gardens in the Edwardsville, IL area between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. Pay $12 in advance or $15 on the day of the tour. Children age 10 and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased at the garden market located at First Presbyterian Church, 237 N. Kansas Street, Edwardsville. For more information, call 618-650-7050.
  • 2011 Olivette House and Garden Tour: This self-guided tour of seven homes in Olivette runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and starts at Stacy Park, where maps will be provided. Volunteers will be on duty at each home to answer questions. The tour takes place rain or shine. Two of the homes are historically significant, dating back to as early as 1885. Another home has many Japanese features, including a water fountain, Japanese maples and a stone bench. The cost is $15 the day of the tour.
  • 2011 New Town Garden Tour: This year's tour of gardens in New Town St. Charles will start from Town Hall on Rue Royale Street in New Town and continue through 10 residential gardens between 1 and 5 p.m. June 26. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at  in New Town. Maps will be provided, and children age 10 and younger are free. Proceeds benefit the New Town Trust.
  • The First Annual Sustainable Backyard Tour: This free, self-guided tour runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 26 and will take you through several outdoor spaces in St. Louis to show you how others have added sustainable living practices in their yards. Green living practices such as rainwater harvesting, composting, and keeping chickens, bees and goats are demonstrated. Register here to take the tour.
  • Mid America Regional Lily Society Show: Head to the Missouri Botanical Gardens to check out the lilies noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Area growers can give plant care advice and information about the organization.
