Sunset All Terrain Bike Safari

Come explore the Marais Temps Clair Conservation Wetland Area in north St. Charles County. Our ride will be guided by huge Black-crowned night herons, king rails and ospreys as they fly from pond to pond. The slowest riders will lead this 7 to 10 mile expedition over rough, silty gravel roads and along the levy paths.

Bring your binoculars and cameras as we will make several stops to spot wildlife. There have been recent sightings of a big cat in the area.

This 917-acre area was once part of an expansive marsh ranging from St. Charles to Alton. The Marais Temps Clair marsh is an old oxbow of the Missouri River and was formed prior to the arrival of European settlers.

This is not a Grants Trail Ride. The going is rough, dusty and remote but the scenery is well worth the trouble.

NO ROAD BIKES . Only mountain bikes, cyclocross and hybrids with adequate tread will be allowed on this ride. I have a few women's loaner bikes I can bring along if you do not have the appropriate type of bike. Please let me know ahead of time.

If your bike has any loose or weak parts, they will quickly remove themselves from your bike or fail due to the washboard nature of some of these roads. Make sure you and your bike are up for a dusty and physical challenge.

There is some chance of getting slightly lost and a very good chance finishing in the dark.

Meet at 6:15. Roll at 6:30.
