Daily Dose: Parade Organizer Appears on Rachel Maddow Show

Also, ways to volunteer in 2012.

Good morning St. Charles! Rain and slush is heading our way around 11 a.m. tomorrow and isn't expected to let up until 5 p.m. Thursday. Bring out the rainboots and umbrellas! Now for the news from the neighborhood:

  • Craig Schneider, the St. Charles resident who is helping to organize the welcome home parade for Iraq war veterans, appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show on Monday. Schneider and the parade organizers are still working to pull off this event which will start at noon Saturday on Market Street in downtown St. Louis. Learn more about how to get involved and the events that are happening on the group's Facebook page or on the Mission Continues website. If you can't make it to the parade, we'd love for you to leave a comment on our earlier story, What Would You Say to a Returning Iraq War Vet? Also, that was the inspiration for the parade. Rick Radford, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and works for the St. Charles School District, is pictured alongside his daughter.
  • If you'd like to volunteer your time in 2012, there's an opportunity to do so with Independent Transportation Network St. Charles. This program offers older adults a ride in private cars. Volunteer drivers are needed. To find out more about the trainings email info@itnstcharles.org. There are two trainings this week: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday or 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday.
  • Finally, we need your help! We'd love to feature a photo on our daily dose but we need community members to help contribute to our neighborhood gallery. We'll select a photo each day from those that are submitted. Go here to upload a photo from around St. Charles!
