Updated: 30 under 30: Elizabeth Liebel Uses Social Media to Market St. Charles

St. Charles Patch interviews 30 people younger than age 30 who live, work or play in St. Charles.

Elizabeth Liebel, 24, graduated from Francis Howell High School and earned a degree in public relations from Southeast Missouri State University. Liebel now works in marketing and public relations at Auctori in Chesterfield. She is also active with the St. Charles Young Professionals and the Vision St. Charles County Leadership.

Liebel also works with Partners for Progress in St. Charles, in the quality of place committee. Partners for Progress was founded in 2001 to "embrace the qualities that make St. Charles County one of the top areas in the St. Louis region." Within the Quality of Place committee, Liebel works to make St. Charles more marketable to younger people.

Elizabeth Liebel: I focus on Internet marketing, basically marketing and promotion for events. Basically, (Partners for Progress) uses the young people in the organization to find out what we would like to see in St. Charles because we're the target.

St. Charles Patch: How long have you been working there? How did you get involved?

Elizabeth Liebel: The quality of place committee started in the spring, that's when I joined. I got involved through connections through other organizations and people I know. St. Charles is so tiny that everyone runs in the same crowd, so you hear about things and opportunities to get involved.

St. Charles Patch: Tell me about some of the Internet marketing you do.

Elizabeth Liebel: On Twitter once a month, we hold a twitchat. We go under the hash tag #STLMKTG. Marketers around St. Louis log on and there's a topic to discuss. Everyone just puts in their advice, tips, opinions on that topic. It just gives everyone a chance to meet and talk when they may not be able to otherwise. It's neat, I like it.

St. Charles Patch: What has been your proudest moment with Partners for Progress?

Elizabeth Liebel: I think it's great to be a part of (the Quality of Place committee) in its first year and seeing it grow so fast. It's cool to be the first at something. Plus I'm one of the youngest members, so it's nice to be respected by people I look up to and feel like my opinion matters.

St. Charles Patch: How does the city of St. Charles affect your work? How does your work affect St. Charles?

Elizabeth Liebel: We're just trying to get people involved and build awareness of all the cool stuff we've got going on as a community. I also think that it's cool they let people my age get involved. It makes us better leaders.

We've held runs for awareness and we're working on a website. We want to create a website for concentrated information on what is going on in the community.

St. Charles Patch: What do you like most about St. Charles?

Elizabeth Liebel: I just love that it feels like a small town, but it's not. It feels comfortable because I've lived here my whole life. I love it here; it's my goal to become mayor of St. Charles.

St. Charles Patch: What else are you interested in?

Elizabeth Liebel: I like to hang out with friends and really get involved in the community. I like to do stuff outside, bike ride, go to wineries.

Correction: Elizabeth Liebel hosts the #stlmktgchat once a month in an effort to get marketing professionals in the region together to discuss topics related to the industry. An earlier version of the article included the incorrect information about this chat. We regret the error.
