10 Ways to Get Active in 2012

Check out a list of places and organizations in the St. Louis area that can help you get active this year.

Try indoor rock climbing at Upper Limits. Upper Limits has two locations in the St. Louis area, one in West County and one in downtown St. Louis. At the West County location, a daily pass is $15, rental packages for gear are $8. A 10 pass punch card costs $110. An introduction to climbing class runs start Jan. 10 will run for six weeks from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sky Zone St. Louis

Visit Sky Zone in Chesterfield to try bouncing on a giant trampoline. A 120-minute jump costs $20. Try a "SkyRobics" work out class for $8 a class. Classes are offered six days a week, often in the evenings or the morning.

Bikram Yoga

For a good sweat, try a beginning Hatha Yoga class at Bikram Yoga in Richmond Heights. Bikram Yoga offers a 90 minute workout in a heated room. Be sure to bring a yoga mat, a towel and water and arrive 15 minutes early on your first visit. A single class costs $18, a ten class card costs $160.

Hoop Dance

Head to in St. Charles to try Hoop Dance. "Hooping is a movement practice that integrates dance, meditation and hula hoops," according to the website. A new session of classes starts Jan. 8 and runs from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Cost is $58.

Beginning Belly Dancing

The St. Charles Adult Education Department offers a class in beginning belly dance. All body types are welcome in the class. The class meets from Feb. 6 to March 19 from 6 to 7 p.m. at . The cost is $52.

Adult Tae Kwon Do

Learn Tae Kwon Do in a class through the St. Charles Parks Department. Classes meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Memorial Hall from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Cost is $48 for two classes a week and $33 for one a week.

Beginning Kayaking

Learn a new skill with beginning kayak lessons through. Classes start Sunday, Jan. 22 and run from 5 to 7 p.m. and are held at the . Cost is $129. Kayak rentals are available for $20, payable on the first night of class.

Join An Adventure Group

The St. Louis Adventure Group meets often to do a range of adventures from biking to backpacking to hiking to ice skating.

Indoor Triathlons

St. Peters Rec Plex offers a chance to participate in an indoor triathlon several times throughout the year. The next triathlon is Jan. 8. The triathlons cost $15 in advance and include a 500-yard swim in the pool, a 15-mile bike ride on stationary bikes and a five mile run on the treadmill for the long course. The short course includes a 300-yard swim in the pool, a 10-mile bike ride and a three-mile run.

Fight for Air Climb

Sign up to "Master the Met" and train to climb 40 flights of stairs to reach the top of the Metropolitan Square Building in downtown St. Louis. The event is March 10, 2012 and participants must raise a minimum of $100. The proceeds benefit the American Lung Association.
