Wamhoff Financial Planning & Accounting June Fundraisers Collect $137,000

St. Charles, MO – The month of June was a busy one for Wamhoff Financial Planning & Accounting and their Honduran charity, Just Because We Care. Two fundraisers were held, including the organization’s annual Golf Tournament, the largest event of the year, and a charity night with the River City Rascals. These two events raised nearly $137,000 to help feed and care for children in Guaymitas, a poverty-stricken mountain village in Honduras.

The annual Golf Tournament, now in its 11th year, was held on June 10th at Bogey Hills Country Club. More than 150 supporters were in attendance at the event, which included golf, raffles, and a dinner auction led by KPLR TV’s Dan Gray. The event raised over $128,000.

On June 29, The River City Rascals hosted Wamhoff Night at the Ballpark to benefit Just Because We Care. All players were outfitted in special jerseys which were auctioned off after the game, and many silent auction items were up for bid. This inaugural event raised over $10,000.

“We are very grateful for the generosity of the many volunteers, sponsors and supporters of Just Because,” said Bob Wamhoff, President of Wamhoff Financial Planning & Accounting and co-founder of Just Because We Care. “For over ten years, this support has enabled us to feed the children, who were in danger of dying from malnutrition when we first arrived. We began by feeding them just one day a week, and today, we feed them five days a week. They are no longer hungry, they are excelling in school, and achieving things we only dreamed of ten years ago.”

Some of those accomplishments include increasing enrollment in the elementary school from 90 children to 157, sending 60 to high school, and 6 to college. Average grades have risen to nearly 92%, up from 59% in 2003. Just Because has also built a vocational school, and six houses for the poorest families.

“We have made a great deal of progress, but we haven’t won the battle yet,” said Wamhoff. “Food costs continue to rise, and unemployment is over 70%. There is still so much need, and we’ll continue to work hard to make sure the children and the community are cared for.”
