St. Charles Police Department K9 to Receive Donated Kevlar Vest

(St. Charles, Missouri Friday July 19, 2013)

On Saturday July 20, K9 Phoenix will receive a custom fitted Kevlar vest from the nonprofit organization, Dogs on Duty.  K9 Phoenix and his handler Officer Richard Fischer will be on hand at the Fight Hard MMA match at the Family Arena on Saturday July 20 to receive the vest during the first intermission of the Fight Hard MMA fights. The Fight Hard MMA event starts at 7:00 pm.

“Donations from groups like Dogs on Duty help our Agency ensure that we are getting the best equipment and protection for our Officers, including K9 Phoenix,” said Police Chief Randy McKinley.  The Grant Anthony Jansen Foundation donated K9 Phoenix back in September of 2012.  “Working closely with groups like Dogs On Duty and the Grant Anthony Jansen Foundation helps the Department foster positive relationships with the community to deliver quality police services.”

Dogs On Duty is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support for all working and service dogs.  The working/service dog class has several members:  police and guard dog, military and detection, search and rescue, therapy and guide (which include physical assistance, psychiatric assistance, medical alert, autism assistance and much more).  Many of these dogs are owned and worked by individuals who have no means of fund raising when additional items are needed or emergencies occur.  They volunteer their time and effort to help others who need their services. Dogs On Duty fund raising is meant to fill that gap.  For more information or to donate to Dogs On Duty please visit www.dogsondutymo.org.
