St. Charles Editor Says Goodbye, Thank You

My time with Patch comes to an end Oct. 15.

I'm sad to report that my final day as founding editor of St. Charles Patch will be Oct. 15.

Effective Tuesday, the editors who ran the 24 St. Louis-area Patch.com sites will be laid off as part of a corporate restructuring by AOL.

Most of the sites, (except Maryland Heights Patch and Webster Groves Patch) will remain open for community use for now. Users are still encouraged to continue sharing news on the community boards, posting events and blog posts.

I'm not sure what the long-term plans are for the site, but while it is still available, you can access the three years worth of news stories about the city.
Some stories that might be helpful:

I launched St. Charles Patch in December 2010, almost three years ago. I just wanted to say that I have so enjoyed my time in covering this community. It's been a wonderful challenge starting a news site from scratch and such fun to write about a community like St. Charles.

This town is filled with people who are passionate about the community about seeing it grow and add new development, while respecting the history. Telling stories about St. Charles has been interesting and fun. I hope I helped foster community discussion and provided a virtual space for neighbors to connect. That was always the goal for Patch.

I also wanted to say thank you to the many people who sent news tips, posted photos, uploaded events and contributed to the site. Many of you stopped me to say hi or offer a bit of information while I worked at Picasso's or the Bike Stop Cafe. I'm grateful for your generosity and your support.

I'm sure I'll see you around at my favorite coffee shops, walking along on Main Street and at a festival or two.

Best,
Kalen Ponche
