The Fontbonne University/KMOX Book Club welcomes H.W. Brands, author of “The Man Who Saved the Union: Ulysses Grant in War and Peace,” at its next book club event. The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. at The History Museum in Forest Park.

H.W. Brands is a professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin and a New York Times bestselling author. He has written several books on history and politics, most notably “Traitor to His Class” and “The First American,” both of which were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. In “The Man Who Saved the Union: Ulysses Grant in War and Peace,” Brands explores the life of this civil rights leader and two-term president who saved the Union twice – on the battlefield and in the White House.
Fontbonne University is a Catholic coeducational institution of higher education offering liberal arts and professional programs, as well as accelerated formats for busy adults. Fontbonne was founded in 1923 and is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
