Vote Now: Help Pick the Top GAC Softball Player for the 2012 Season

Vote for the fan's choice for the top softball player in the GAC.

The 2012 softball season is in the books, but it's OK to take a look back.

Yes, it's time for another edition of the St. Charles County Athlete of the Week fan poll. Except this week has a twist. Instead of looking at the last week, we're looking at the entire season.

This week we head to the softball field. Tell us in the poll below: Who was the top GAC softball player in 2012?

MacKenzie Peter—Fort Zumwalt South: The GAC Central player of the year, Zumwalt South's MacKenzie Peter was a dominant force with the bat in 2012. Peter compiled a .474 batting average with a .545 on-base percentage and a .987 slugging percentage—all tops on the team. Her . She was tied for the conference lead in homers with seven and led the GAC Central with 35 RBIs.

Casey Ward—Orchard Farm: The Eagles Casey Ward was a tough out in 2012. Ward led the GAC North with an incredible .566 batting average and a league-best 43 hits. When she made contact, she also provided plenty of pop with a conference-topping six homers. She tied for the lead in RBIs (33), but led in runs scored with 30 and slugging percentage (.961).

Hanna Porter—Fort Zumwalt West: Zumwalt West's Hanna Porter was a big bat in the Jaguars lineup. Porter was third in the GAC South with an impressive .561 batting average. She hit for power, too, leading the conference with a staggering 1.152 slugging percentage. She had seven homers (second in the conference), five triples (tied for third) and eight doubles (top-10). Porter was fourth in RBIs with 29 and second in the South with a .603 on-base percentage.

Mykaela Arellanes—Holt: Holt speedster Mykaela Arellanes was a great table-setter for the Indians. Arellanes didn't hit for much power—she had no homers—but she certainly did hit. She finished the year with a .529 batting average, tops in the GAC Central for anyone with more than 50 at-bats. She led the conference in runs scored (41) and was second in on-base percentage with a .577 average. But her key stat was stolen bases. Arellanes swiped 43 bags this year—29 more than the second-best in the Central.
