Task Force Busts Mobile Meth-Making Couple in St. Charles

The man told the St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives he often makes his own meth in his car.

A couple was charged Thursday in St. Charles for making methamphetamine in the man’s car.

Mark A. Smith, 26, of Elsberry, and Mary Melling, 24, of Moscow Mills, face charges of manufacturing and possessing meth.

After a traffic stop at 2702 Droste Road in St. Charles Nov. 16, St. Charles County Drug Task Force detectives searched Smith’s car and found a baggie with meth residue and ingredients used to make meth, according to court documents.

Detectives said in a report that Smith admitted to buying pseudoephedrine and using it to make meth. Smith said he often makes meth in his car. He said he made the drug himself to save money.

Melling told detectives she bought pseudoephedrine for Smith and helped him make the meth in exchange for a portion of the product, according to the report.

Bond for both Smith and Melling was set at $100,000.
