St. Charles Woman in Critical Condition After Attack
St. Charles Police are investigating a man charged with assaulting the woman in February in connection with the attack on Tuesday.
A St. Charles woman was hospitalized and is in critical condition after being attacked Tuesday.
“Her injuries are consistent with an assault rather than an accident. The investigation is still going on at this time,” said Lt. Dave Senter of St. Charles Police. “Her injuries are very serious. There is bleeding on the brain and doctors have removed a portion of her skull.”
The woman was the victim of domestic assault in late February as well and on Thursday, Steven J. Martineau, 47, of the 400 block of Tower Grove Place in St. Charles was charged for that incident.
Police said in court documents that Martineau is under investigation as a suspect in Tuesday’s attack on the victim.
On Feb. 26, police said that Martineau struck the woman twice in the face because she stayed out until the early morning hours. At the time, she lived with Martineau. Another woman witnessed the assault, according to the report.
Police said in the report that Martineau has prior arrests for domestic assault in Muskegon County, MI, where he is wanted on a probation violation.
