St. Charles To Commemorate War of 1812

Event will feature singing of the first national anthem in honor of the 200th anniversary of the war of 1812.

President James Madison signed a declaration of war against Great Britain on June 18, 1812. 

Tonight, the St. Charles City Veterans Commission will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the war with a memorial event at 7 p.m. at the St. Charles City Veterans Memorial at Bishops Landing. 

The 35 veterans of the war of 1812 are buried in St. Charles County including four at St. Charles' .

The event will include a performance from Lewis and Clark Fife and Drum Corps, who will wear 1812 period uniforms and play a selection of period marches as well as the original National Anthem. 

Dorris Keevan-Franke, archivist for the will be the keynote speaker.
