St. Charles County Voters Overwhelmingly Approve Prop R

St. Charles voters select Republicans Chrissy Sommer, Mark Parkinson to run for House Districts 106, 105. Circuit Judge Dan Pelikan wins reelection.

More than 55,600 registered voters in St. Charles County or about 21.6 percent, turned out to vote in the August primary Tuesday.

St. Charles County voters overwhelmingly supported a 10 year extension of the 1/2 cent transportation sales tax for road improvements in the county.

With 76.61 percent of voters saying "yes" to the extension, funding is guaranteed for road projects until 2026. Voters approved the tax for the first time in 1985. It was reauthorized in 1994 and 2004. 

It generates more than $20 million annually. The St. Charles County Road Board recommends road and bridge projects from applications submitted by municipalities in the county.

St. Charles Republicans Select Incumbents for House Seats

St. Charles-area voters supported Republican State Rep. Chrissy Sommer in her bid for the 106th house district. She had 77.86 percent of the vote to her primary opponent Kyle Albert's 22.14 percent. 

Sommer, who served this spring as a State Representative in District 15, said she felt as though people were looking for more experience. Albert has not served in elective office. 

Sommer will face Democrat Tom Fann in November.

"We'll obviously be hitting the campaign trail again now," Sommer said. "We'll be working really hard so we're ready when we face voters in November."

Republican State Rep. Mark Parkinson beat challenger Jason Smith in the race for 105 district house seat, taking 77.62 percent of the vote to Smith's 22.38 percent.

Dan Pelikan Wins Reelection to Circuit Judge, Division 5

Pelikan won his bid for reelection against Judge Terry Cundiff, taking 59.54 percent of the vote to Cundiff's 40.46 percent.

Republican Township Races

Voters reelected several people to the St. Charles County Republican Central Committee, . 

Incumbent barely edged out challenger by just six votes to win First Capitol Township Committeeman. Less than one percentage point separates the two. 

Incumbents Fred Henke and Penny Henke were elected as committeeman and committeewoman from Frontier Township. Chrissy Sommer was elected committeewoman from Muegge Township.
