Gospel Inspires Volunteer to Give Back Five Days a Week

Joe Morris, of Wentzville, volunteers nearly each day of the week. When he retired he found he didn't enjoy golf or fishing or watching TV much and wanted a way to fill his time.
Morris, 82, volunteers with several organizations, including St. Patrick Catholic School and Pathways Community Hospice, spending nearly each day of the week with a different group of people.
"I'm prompted by holy scripture," he said. "The gospel of Matthew chapter 25 tells us to do for others, to feed them and to clothe them and to take care of them. This is what prompts me to do this kind of work."
My Volunteer Story is a partnership between the St. Charles Community Council and Patch.com to collect and share stories from local volunteers about the impact that volunteering has had on their lives. If you'd like to share your story, stop by the volunteer fair at Spencer Library Branch Sept. 15 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Email Kalen Ponche at email@example.com to set up a time to stop by and record your thoughts on volunteering.
