Man Indicted for Murder in St. Charles Domestic Assault Case

St. Charles County prosecutors said Steven Martineau beat his girlfriend, Linda Cerutti, on May 26. She died 15 days later.

A St. Charles County grand jury indicted Steven J. Martineau Jan. 18 for second-degree murder, second-degree domestic assault and third-degree domestic assault in the beating death of his girlfriend.

Prosecutors said Martineau assaulted Linda Cerutti May 26, causing severe head trauma. She remained unconscious and died June 10 as a result of her injuries. She was 50 years old.

Martineau next has a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 22.

Martineau also is charged with a Feb. 26 assault on Cerutti, which was witnessed by another woman, according to St. Charles Police.

Police said he hit her twice in the face, knocking her to the floor. The police report indicated he punched her because she stayed out until the early morning hours.

Martineau is being held in St. Charles County Justice Center. Bond was set at $50,000, cash only.

This shouldn't be shocking to me...but everytime it takes me back to the 1st day I saw my mom fighting for her life in the hospital. A wave of different emotions. I pray to God he rots in prison for the remainder of his days then in hell for eternity. He took my mom from us way too early. She wasn't this type of person to put up w this crap. I miss my mom everyday. I will never be able to wrap my head around this...at least not until I meet her again. Love you momma and your justice will be served! *HEARTBROKEN 33Y/O BABYGIRL*

This seems unfair, he should be getting more! Just because we see this kind of stuff on the news all the time means we should accept? NO, I don't think so. Our society needs to quit accepting and make our laws more punishable for their crimes. And these types of people should not be released to cause more harm again to others. Keep them locked up! He changed her and made her weak and took advantage. Please Dear Lord, give her family justice and don't allow him to do this EVER again!
