this incident had traffic backed up to Earth City and westbound traffic moved slowly on the highway shoulder past the emergency vehicles. The car that hit Michael had a smashed windshield and front-end damage. Let's be hopeful for a positive update on his condition today.

He was a homeless man my cousin watched it all happened and stopped and try to give him CPR she found his sign under her car he walked right in front of the lady.

I've never seen so many people walking on interstates as I have in this metro. Nor have I seen so little invested in making a decent pedestrian environment. Honestly, Fifth Street south of McDonough is pretty pathetic, and even from Clay to McDonough it's pretty weak, walkability-wise. This city has the second best City infrastructure in the region, and all our planning decisions are built around accommodating more cars. Stupidity. Like the new University Commons Schnucks by Lindenwood. We've razed half a mile of the original street grid to replace it with the kind of trash infrastructure you'd find in Chesterfield. And it will be less walkable as a result.

How do you not see someone crossing a highway in the middle of the day, granted its not a walkway but its kinda hard not to see. Did he literally walk right into the path of oncoming traffic that was too close not to hit him? Of was the driver just not looking at the road?

I was right behind the driver. It was right off the bridge just as traffic is starting to pick up. She had a huge construction truck right next to her a little in front, i couldnt even see this guy crossing. The construction truck slammed on his breaks. And as he did that, the man was visible to me. so im guessing that would have been when she noticed the man as well as she slammed on her breaks. the man is very lucky to be alive. he could have just gone under the underpass at fifth street it really makes no sense crossing the highway when traffic is like that. unless he had a death wish and or is looking for a quick buck. Ill be praying for him to make a full recover, also for the girl. something like this can be very traumatic for a long time.
