A new pavilion in Frontier Park is expected to open in January.
Chris Atkinson, assistant director of St. Charles Parks and Recreation, said the path leading to the pavilion on the north end of the park has been completed along with the steel frame for the pavilion.
Next week, crews are expected to begin work on the roof.
Reservations are already being accepted for the pavilion, and others throughout the city. Reservations are available at all city shelters from April 15 to Oct. 31 and at Blanchette Park between Nov. 1 and April 15.
The fee to reserve a shelter is $45 for a St. Charles resident and $90 for nonresidents.
On Wednesday, St. Charles Parks and Recreation Commission approved a new policy that prohibits people from selling items out of the pavilions.
The largest impact this will have will be on major events like the Oktoberfest event and the Festival of the Little Hills, said Maralee Britton, Director of Parks and Recreation.

Keeping with the original intent of adding the pavilion to Frontier Park, Schools visiting St Charles on field trips may request a waiver of the rental fee by contacting the Parks and Recreation Administration Office at 636-949-3372. We will reserve the pavilion for the day and the kiddos will have a great place to take a break and eat lunch!

Can you define peddling? What about people playing music and getting tips? Would that be breaking the law? I love live music and try to support it when I can.

Hi Tammy- Here's what the law says "No peddling, vending, solicitation or sales of any kind, including but not limited to garage sales, food/beverage sales, or goods, may be conducted for a park pavilion. Special events using large areas of a park which creates adverse rental availability for private reservations shall be charged fees associated with the pavilion rental as it is unavailable to the general public."

The law needs to define peddling as well. Since it doesn't specifically list musical interludes, I'm still wondering...

I just heard from Maralee Britton. She said the music issue is covered under the city's ban of soliciting in parks:
"It shall be unlawful for any person, while in or about any City park, to:
5. Soliciting. Solicit alms or contributions for any purpose, whether public or private."
