Update: Food Truck Day Planned for Frontier Park Oct. 4

St. Charles Parks Department plans city's first large-scale food truck event.

Updated Oct. 1 with the list of food trucks which will be at the event.

Food trucks will converge in Frontier Park for the city's first large-scale food truck event from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4.

St. Charles Parks Department is organizing the event, which Director Maralee Britton hopes will be similar to the monthly Food Truck Friday events at Tower Grove Park, hosted by Sauce Magazine.

Eleven food trucks are expected to be in the park including Burger Ink, Cha Cha Chow, El Gran Taco, Go Gyro Go, Hot Aztec, Papa Tom's Fancy Franks, Sarah's Cake Stop, Sarah's Meltdown, Speedway Eatery, The Sweet Divine and Zia's "On the Hill."

Trailhead Brewery and Little Hills Winery will sell beverages. Musicians Clayton Jones and Eric Prewitt, from Rhythm Music and Performing Arts Studio will perform. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

"We're starting to look at food trucks in a much different light. It's more gourmet food now than what you might have seen at a carnival," she said. "While some of our cohorts in the St. Louis area had been doing some of these types of events, it had not spread yet to this side of the river."

Cities in St. Charles County have varying rules for food trucks, which may be the reason not many venture into the County regularly. Some cities, like O'Fallon, prohibit food trucks, while St. Peters and St. Charles require vendors to get approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Since this event is happening in the park, food trucks will only have to get a temporary license from St. Charles County Health Department and provide proof of insurance to participate.

"The food trucks is definitely something new for us," Britton said. "We have not typically in the past been an event department... Our city is saturated with events, we want to be cautious that we choose something that's not a a typical event."

She said she's hopeful food trucks in Frontier will bring a much broader base of people from throughout the region.

I've been wanting to attend Food Truck Friday at Tower Grove Park all summer. Timing has not worked. Hoping to make it down there next Fri Sept 14. I'm so glad the St. Charles Parks Dept is hosting a Food Truck Evening at Frontier Park Thurs Oct 4th !!! Food Trucks are now typically selling nutritious, gourmet food. They don't have the overhead of a restaurant or wait staff, so prices are very reasonable. Hope this event has a great turn-out !!

YAY!Yay!Yay!!!! I foresee this being popular and maybe it will let the powers-that-be see the need change the laws for food trucks. I've stopped trying to get my favorite trucks to venture to St. Charles, because of the heavy-handed rules.

Good Idea! We hear so much about the progressive culinary trends of food trucks on the east and west coast. This is a great way to explore that and widen the local palate all at teh same time while bring people down into the park for food fun and community fellowship!

Food Trucks are plenty of fun, for the family, especially children! In addition they bring in plenty of revenue for all businesses

Congrats to the city for embracing diversity - through Food!

Coolers are permitted in Tower Grove Park for Food Truck Friday. Will they be permitted in St. Charles?

@pegell3 I haven't heard anything about coolers being prohibited. They are certainly normally allowed in the park.

OK update on the cooler info from TJ Slattery, who is a Parks Board member: "Coolers with soft drinks and water are allowed into the park for city sponsored events, however no outside alcohol can be brought in or taken out of the park. It will be available for purchase through from Trailhead Brewery and Winery of the Little Hills."

I don't know for sure- but I would guess so if he is on a leash. I think dogs are normally allowed in the park.
