Five seats on St. Charles City Council are up for election in April.
Filing for St. Charles City Council seats opens today with six council seats up for election in April 2013.
Council seats in wards 6 through 10 are up for election, and the incumbents for most wards have said they plan to file for reelection.
To run for city council, candidates must be 21 years old before taking office, a citizen, live in the city for two years before the election, a registered voter and a resident of the ward in which they are running for election for at least six months before the election.
Candidates also have to get signatures of 25 registered voters on a petition to file. Interested parties can pick up a packet from the City Clerk on Nov. 26. Filing closes Jan. 15.
Councilmen Jerry Reese, Ward-6, Dave Beckering, Ward-7, and Councilwoman Bridget Ohmes, Ward-10, have said they plan to file to run for another term. Councilman Ron Stivison, Ward-9, is also up for reelection.
Mayor Sally Faith recently appointed Rod Hermann, who is a member of the Board of Public Works, to fill former Ward-8 Councilman Mike Klinghammer's term. Klinghammer won election in November to represent District 6 on the St. Charles County Council. His term on the city council would have ended in April.
According to a press release from the city, Hermann is planning to file for election to the 8th Ward seat.
