Do You Have Unused Prescription Drugs In Your Medicine Cabinet?
St. Charles Police are collecting unused prescription drugs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Charles Police Department.
St. Charles Police Department will be a collection site for the Drug Enforcement Administration's national drug takeback program Saturday.
Anyone can drop off medications for disposal at the police station, 1781 Zumbehl Road, no questions asked.
Interim Police Chief Larry Stulce said unused prescription drugs have been proven to be a gateway to narcotics for young people. "It leads to more harsh drugs like the cocaine and heroin," he said.
The initiative also keeps the drugs out of the local water system. Often, people dispose of medications by flushing them in the toilet or dumping them in the trash, but these methods pose safety hazards.
